Description
Asbestos has been used for a long time because of its valuable qualities. Asbestos is banned for some time, but is mainly left in older buildings and is a risk to those who work in the construction industry. Demolition workers, HVAC installers, electricians, carpenters, floor layers , roofers , cleaners , construction safety coordinators , workers and janitors are professionals who may be exposed to asbestos. Now there is a European directive that governs how to handle asbestos in Europe. In Sweden, it is regulated in the provisions concerning asbestos, AFS 2006:1, published by The Swedish Work Environment Authority. All that may come in contact with asbestos or materials containing asbestos, must receive information about asbestos health effects, characteristics and occurrence before starting work. There are requirements for special training for those who handle or demolish asbestos-containing materials and for their supervisors.
