The EU regulation on personal protective equipment (PPE) replaces Swedish legislation

From April 21st 2018, a new EU regulation on PPE is in force. This is a regulation that is directly applicable in Sweden and includes the modernization and optimization of legislation in this area (EU) 2016/425. The current Swedish provisions on personal protective equipment AFS 1996: 7 have been repealed, but will still apply to PPE that was already on the market before April 21st 2018.
The new regulation and Directive 89/686 / EEC will then apply in parallel for one year, but from 21 April 2019 only the rules of the new EU regulation will apply.
The regulations apply to manufacturers of personal protective equipment for professional use, and these companies are subject to revocation. There are about 50 manufacturers of personal protective equipment in Sweden. A novelty is that in addition to the requirements of manufacturers of personal protective equipment, there is also a requirement for importers and distributors of personal protective equipment, in accordance with the new EU regulation. If the requirements of the EU regulation are not met, it may result in a sale ban and sanction fees.
